The call

In addition to traditional branded work, at Score a Score, we’ve always felt privileged to work on PSA and non-profit campaigns. So when we got the call from Art of Sound/Havas to work on this campaign for the American Parkinson Disease Association, we were thrilled to help, especially when we saw the beautiful video.

The direction

The music direction was a balancing act. The score needed to be emotive and powerful, yet “real and raw.” The goal was to support the narrative arc, with nuanced ebbing and flowing of tension and relief. We wanted viewers to feel the weight of the disease, while reinforcing the inspirational message that the people in the spot aren’t letting Parkinson’s stop them from living the life they want to.

The score

Given the unique blend of tonality, we knew this needed to be a custom score, and we knew that our composer Matt Abeysekera was the perfect fit to capture it. Within days, Matt turned around an amazing piece, “Purple Balance,” which we went on to refine with the agency across a number of revision rounds.

Finally, to really capture the raw/human tone, we engaged our composer/instrumentalist Joni Fuller to record and overlay live strings, which elevated the piece to even greater heights.

We’re very proud of the campaign, the music and the cause it supports.
