Every musical route for TurboTax’s Super Bowl spot, explored in six days

Challenge

Help the client explore a wide range of musical possibilities ranging from licensing an iconic recording, to producing a custom cover version, to recording an entirely original piece of music for the spot, and then execute their chosen music solution.

Approach

Over the course of 6 days, our team conducted three search rounds and presented 100+ songs to the client, exploring a wide range of eras and genres, while simultaneously recording and presenting original demos as a parallel path. We then produced an original, instrumental recording of the client’s chosen song (“These Boots”) both to add creative value and to keep song costs within budget.

Result

We successfully handled all of the client’s music needs from music supervision and clearance - negotiating with rightsholders, artists and songwriters - to original composition, to producing a cover version, and delivered them a soundtrack everyone was happy with.
